The Step

Taking "The Step": Embracing Faith with Courage

When was the last time you did something scary—not out of recklessness, but because you felt called by God? Taking a bold step of faith isn’t easy, but it’s often the very thing that leads us closer to His purpose. Let’s look at two powerful biblical examples.

Taking the Plunge: Lessons from Peter and Abraham

Picture yourself in a boat on a stormy sea. The waves crash, the wind howls—and then you see Jesus walking on water. He invites you to come. Do you stay in the boat, or do you step out? This was Peter’s moment in Matthew 14:22-33. His choice reminds us that faith doesn’t erase fear; it’s choosing to trust Jesus despite the fear.

In Genesis 12:1-4, Abram (later Abraham) faced a similar test. God asked him to leave everything familiar and go to a land he had never seen. It wasn’t just a physical journey—it was a spiritual leap of faith into God’s promises.

Leaving the Comfort Zone

Faith often means leaving the “boats” that keep us comfortable and safe. Think about it:

  • Abraham left the familiar for God’s promise.

  • Moses left Egypt to embrace his destiny.

  • The disciples left everything to follow Jesus.

What about you? Is there a step God is asking you to take—letting go of a habit, facing a fear, or stepping into a new calling?

Keeping Your Eyes on Jesus

Peter walked on water as long as he focused on Jesus. The moment he looked at the storm, he sank. The same is true for us—faith is sustained by focus.

When I felt called to begin this ministry, I wrestled with doubts. Leaving a familiar church where I had invested deeply was difficult. Yet, by fixing my eyes on Jesus, I found the courage to move forward. Faith doesn’t silence fear—it gives us strength to overcome it.

Learning Through Stumbles

Even when Peter began to sink, Jesus reached out and saved him. Failure didn’t disqualify Peter—it grew his faith. Sometimes stumbling is part of the process. Unlike the disciples who stayed in the boat, Peter experienced the power of Jesus firsthand.

Don’t let fear of failure keep you from stepping out. Jesus will always be there to lift you up.

Conclusion: Where Is Jesus Calling You?

Faith is rarely safe. It’s about stepping out when Jesus calls. Ask yourself:

  • Where is Jesus calling me to trust Him today?

  • What boat do I need to leave behind?

  • Will I keep my eyes on Him when the waves rise?

This ministry itself was born from such a step of faith. Our heart is to be a community where, as John 13:35 says, love proves our discipleship, and where we follow Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).

If you’re searching for a place to take your next step of faith, we welcome you. Together, let’s embrace the courage to leave the boat and walk with the One who makes the impossible possible.
