đ What Position Are You Playing on Godâs Team?
đ Introduction: When God Calls an Audible
Itâs 4th and 2, and youâre on the five-yard line, just moments away from scoring. The offensive coordinator calls the play, the quarterback relays it, and everyone lines upâfocused and ready.
Then suddenlyâŠ
âCHECK! CHECK!â
The QB calls an audible.
You thought you knew the planâbut now everythingâs changed.
How often does that happen in life? Youâre convinced youâre following Godâs path, and then suddenly He changes the direction. You hear His âCHECK CHECKâ â His audible â and youâre left asking:
đ Am I in the right position?
As we look at Romans 12:4â8, keep this in mind: every believer has a position in Jesusâ ministry. Letâs see what Godâs playbook says.
đ Scripture: Romans 12:4â8 (NLT)
âJust as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christâs body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.
In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things wellâŠâ
Paul reminds us that every believer is vital to the team. Some teach, some serve, some give, some leadâbut every one of us matters.
đ Point 1: One Team, Many Positions
Like a football team, the church only succeeds when everyone works together.
Coaches, players, trainers, and staff all have different responsibilities, but one missionâto win. The Body of Christ is the same way. We may come from different backgrounds, struggles, and stories, but the Holy Spirit unites us.
Growing in your faithâdiscovering your positionâtakes time, energy, and strength.
â± Time
Set time aside daily to read your Bible and pray. God speaks to those who listen.
⥠Energy
Live your faith intentionally. Spiritual energy fuels spiritual growth.
đȘ Strength
Deny yourself and follow Christ. It takes real strength to walk away from sin.
âIf any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.â
â Matthew 16:24â26 (NLT)
Just like athletes train their bodies, Christians must discipline their spirits.
𧹠Point 2: Follow the Coachâs Call
Football players sacrifice everything for their team. Think of Ray Lewis and Eddie Georgeâtwo fierce competitors who gave it all for victory.
Now ask yourself:
đ Are you willing to give it all for Jesus?
The Holy Spirit is our Coach, Jesus is our Head Coach, and God the Father is the Owner and General Manager. Together, they lead the perfect team with the perfect playbook.
When we surrender to the Spiritâs leadership, He equips us with the gifts we need to play our part well.
đ Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:4â14 (NLT)
âThere are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all...
A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other...
It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts.
He alone decides which gift each person should have.â
Every believer has a spiritual giftâwisdom, faith, healing, prophecy, encouragement, service, generosity, leadership, or something else.
Your gift is your position.
Your Coach knows exactly where youâre meant to be.
đ Final Drive: Know Your Position
So here we are againâitâs 4th and 2, on the five-yard line. The gameâs on the line.
Do you know what position youâre playing?
đ Quarterback (Leader): You hear the call and lead others in obedience.
đââïž Running Back (Servant): You charge forward, following the holes God opens.
đââïž Wide Receiver (Messenger): You stay alert, reading the signals, ready to carry the message downfield.
đĄ Tight End (Intercessor): You bridge the gapâprotecting, blocking, and praying in the Spirit.
đ„ Offensive Line (Faithful Foundation): You protect the team through faith, healing, and endurance. Without you, nothing moves forward.
Donât know your position yet? Thatâs okay! Every player starts by learning the playbook.
đ The Playbook
â
Read Godâs Word â Know what the play says.
đ Pray to the Head Coach â Seek His direction.
đ„ Listen to the Holy Spirit â Let Him lead every move.
When you trust the process, youâll discover your gifts, your role, and your calling. Before long, youâll be starting on Godâs undefeated team.
đ Final Thought
Godâs team never loses.
The plays might change, but the goal never doesâto glorify Jesus and reach the world.
So⊠what position are you playing?
