🏈 What Position Are You Playing on God’s Team?

🏁 Introduction: When God Calls an Audible

It’s 4th and 2, and you’re on the five-yard line, just moments away from scoring. The offensive coordinator calls the play, the quarterback relays it, and everyone lines up—focused and ready.

Then suddenly

“CHECK! CHECK!”
The QB calls an audible.

You thought you knew the plan—but now everything’s changed.

How often does that happen in life? You’re convinced you’re following God’s path, and then suddenly He changes the direction. You hear His “CHECK CHECK” — His audible — and you’re left asking:

👉 Am I in the right position?

As we look at Romans 12:4–8, keep this in mind: every believer has a position in Jesus’ ministry. Let’s see what God’s playbook says.

📖 Scripture: Romans 12:4–8 (NLT)

“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well
”

Paul reminds us that every believer is vital to the team. Some teach, some serve, some give, some lead—but every one of us matters.

🏈 Point 1: One Team, Many Positions

Like a football team, the church only succeeds when everyone works together.

Coaches, players, trainers, and staff all have different responsibilities, but one mission—to win. The Body of Christ is the same way. We may come from different backgrounds, struggles, and stories, but the Holy Spirit unites us.

Growing in your faith—discovering your position—takes time, energy, and strength.

⏱ Time

Set time aside daily to read your Bible and pray. God speaks to those who listen.

⚡ Energy

Live your faith intentionally. Spiritual energy fuels spiritual growth.

đŸ’Ș Strength

Deny yourself and follow Christ. It takes real strength to walk away from sin.

“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.”
— Matthew 16:24–26 (NLT)

Just like athletes train their bodies, Christians must discipline their spirits.

🧱 Point 2: Follow the Coach’s Call

Football players sacrifice everything for their team. Think of Ray Lewis and Eddie George—two fierce competitors who gave it all for victory.

Now ask yourself:
👉 Are you willing to give it all for Jesus?

The Holy Spirit is our Coach, Jesus is our Head Coach, and God the Father is the Owner and General Manager. Together, they lead the perfect team with the perfect playbook.

When we surrender to the Spirit’s leadership, He equips us with the gifts we need to play our part well.

📖 Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:4–14 (NLT)

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all...
A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other...
It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts.
He alone decides which gift each person should have.”

Every believer has a spiritual gift—wisdom, faith, healing, prophecy, encouragement, service, generosity, leadership, or something else.

Your gift is your position.
Your Coach knows exactly where you’re meant to be.

🏟 Final Drive: Know Your Position

So here we are again—it’s 4th and 2, on the five-yard line. The game’s on the line.

Do you know what position you’re playing?

  • 🏈 Quarterback (Leader): You hear the call and lead others in obedience.

  • đŸƒâ€â™‚ïž Running Back (Servant): You charge forward, following the holes God opens.

  • đŸƒâ€â™€ïž Wide Receiver (Messenger): You stay alert, reading the signals, ready to carry the message downfield.

  • 🛡 Tight End (Intercessor): You bridge the gap—protecting, blocking, and praying in the Spirit.

  • đŸ’„ Offensive Line (Faithful Foundation): You protect the team through faith, healing, and endurance. Without you, nothing moves forward.

Don’t know your position yet? That’s okay! Every player starts by learning the playbook.

📖 The Playbook

✅ Read God’s Word — Know what the play says.
🙏 Pray to the Head Coach — Seek His direction.
đŸ”„ Listen to the Holy Spirit — Let Him lead every move.
