A World in Chaos
In Noah’s time, the world had become filled with wickedness. People’s hearts were corrupt, and violence was everywhere. God looked upon the earth and was grieved by humanity’s sin, deciding to bring a great flood to cleanse the earth. Yet, amidst all this corruption, Noah found favor in God’s eyes because he was righteous and obedient.
God’s Call and Noah’s Obedience
God gave Noah specific instructions: build an ark—a massive boat of wood—to save his family and representatives of every living creature. Noah didn’t question the task, even though it must have seemed impossible. He obeyed, demonstrating unwavering faith in God’s plan.
The Ark and the Flood
Noah built the ark exactly as God commanded, gathering his family and pairs of every kind of animal. Then came the flood, a downpour that covered the earth for forty days and forty nights. Inside the ark, Noah and his family were safe, protected by God’s provision. Outside, the waters destroyed all that was corrupt, giving the world a fresh start.
A Promise of Hope
After the floodwaters receded, Noah’s family and the animals left the ark to repopulate the earth. God made a covenant with Noah, symbolized by the rainbow, promising never again to destroy the earth with a flood. This covenant reminds us that God values obedience and offers hope and renewal even after destruction.
